Supporting You Through Every Trimester
Acupuncture has been used for centuries during pregnancy and is increasingly integrated alongside modern maternity care. Treatments may help support:
- Morning sickness and nausea
- Fatigue and low energy
- Headaches and migraines
- Neck, back and pelvic pain
- Sciatica
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Heartburn and digestive discomfort
- Constipation
- Swelling and fluid retention
- Anxiety and emotional wellbeing
- Sleep disturbances
- Breech positioning (when appropriate and in collaboration with your maternity provider)
- Preparation for labour beginning around 36 weeks
Each treatment is adapted to your stage of pregnancy, comfort level, and current symptoms.
Your first appointment includes a comprehensive health assessment where we discuss your pregnancy, current symptoms, medical history, birth plans and overall wellness goals.
Treatment may include:
- Gentle acupuncture
- Traditional Chinese Medicine assessment
- Lifestyle and nutritional recommendations
- Pregnancy-safe acupressure education when appropriate
- Herbal medicine recommendations only when suitable and in collaboration with your healthcare team
Many patients describe treatments as deeply relaxing and often leave feeling calmer, lighter and more comfortable.
Absolutely. Acupuncture is designed to complement—not replace—the care you receive from your maternity team. We work alongside your healthcare providers to support a healthy pregnancy including your:
- Midwife
- Obstetrician
- Family physician
- Doula
- Pelvic floor physiotherapist
- Chiropractor
Our goal is to provide safe, collaborative care that supports both you and your baby throughout pregnancy.
Beginning around 36 weeks, many expectant mothers choose weekly acupuncture treatments to prepare for labour.
Labour preparation acupuncture may help:
- Encourage cervical ripening
- Support optimal fetal positioning
- Promote pelvic relaxation
- Reduce muscular tension
- Encourage efficient labour progression
- Support recovery after birth
While acupuncture cannot guarantee when labour will begin, research suggests regular labour preparation treatments may support a smoother labour experience for many women.
If you're interested in having acupuncture available during labour, we'll begin the conversation during your prenatal visits—ideally around 34–36 weeks. We'll discuss your birth preferences, estimated due date, planned birth location, and whether on-call support is the right fit for you.
If we decide to move forward, I'll reserve availability around your due date and provide you with instructions on when to contact me once labour begins. Depending on your birth plan and location, I can join your care team at home or at the hospital to provide acupuncture and acupressure support throughout labour.
Because on-call labour support is offered to a limited number of families each month, I recommend discussing availability well before your due date.
Pregnancy places unique demands on the body. Hormones shift, posture changes, circulation increases, ligaments soften, and your nervous system works continuously to support your growing baby.
Acupuncture encourages the body toward balance by supporting circulation, calming the nervous system, relieving muscular tension, and promoting the body's own natural healing responses.
Treatments are always gentle and use pregnancy-safe acupuncture points appropriate for each stage of pregnancy.
